I realize news regarding our favorite drunk, Sandra Leetard, has been rather scant since the premiere of Money Wasting Meals, but here's something that's going to make your head spin.
First and foremost, I want to thank Dottie, a reader here who informed of Sandra's latest scheme. Thank you!
We all know this woman has millions upon millions of dollars, or should I say, "dall-ers?," which is why this is so confusing.
Have you ever heard of a Semi-Homemade Weekend? No? Neither have I, but Sandra does.
It seems our resident Queen of SLop has invited readers of her Semi-HO-made Magazine, in association with Hoffman Media, to an exclusive Semi-Homemade Weekend get away at the Hilton Atlanta hotel in Atlanta, Georgia.During the three day weekend, set to begin Friday October 16, 2009, attendees will enjoy: "how-to demonstrations, recipes, meal-planning tips, and creative entertaining and decorating ideas" from Skankdra.
A full schedule of the event is available HERE.
So, how much would it set you back to attend?
According to the site, "registration is only $399." That's not all. All guests are also required to pay an additional, non-refundable deposit of $100, meaning that the entire Semi-Homemade Weekend would set you back $1 shy of $400!
Of course, this amount covers: "three meals (Friday evening Cocktail Time, Saturday evening dinner, and Sunday morning Paper Plate Brunch), speaking programs, Q&A with Sandra, autograph session, and breakout sessions and materials."
Not only that, but guests are required to make their own hotel / travel arrangements. One night at the Hilton Atlanta costs $189 per night, if you can afford that, and don't forget about the $30 taxi fare you'd have to fork over just to get from the airport to the hotel. Once there, if you decide to park your own car, it will cost you $17 a night (or $24 a night for valet parking).
In total, Scamdra is asking her fans to shell out $1,047 (deposit, registration, hotel, taxi fare and the cheapest parking available).
So, who's ready to shell it out?!
Isn't this propostrous?! Here is a scamming, self-made millionaire requesting almost $2,000 per guest and for what? So, they can watch her SLop Cheez Whiz on top of store-bought tortilla chips or embellish a donut glaze with apple juice concentrate?
I'm sorry, but this is unconscionable!
Take your Semi-Homemade Weekend and shove it, Sandra!
P.S. Thanks again to Dottie for emailing me. Sorry it took so long. If you've got a news scoop yourself, don't forget that our community email is: semihorriblecooking@yahoo.com. Email me and I'll get to it, eventually! :)

With that amount of money I could 'doll up' a nice apartment of my own and have money to look for a used car.
Hell, that's one of my student loans right there.

You Are All Wrong!
I think you are all wrong and here's why.It would be worth every fucking penny of close to 2K to experience this once in a lifetime weekend.
Consider it research.
The wealth of intimate knowledge of semi-HO-makers and their ilk up close and personal would certainly prove to be a life changing experience. Imagine all the insider knowledge one might glean from such encounters.
That being said, I believe that Andrew MUST attend this function. As our leader in Scamdra snark, his attendance is imperative. Just think of what it would be like to infiltrate the group, pretending to be one with them in Sandra worship, all the while scheming and planning revenge once he is back amongst us.
So, my only question is, Andrew, have you made your reservations yet?

D'oooooohhhhhhhh.......
.....Meadow Muffins!Hoffman Media, the creators of such tasteful magazines as Southern Lady and TeaTime (of which I am a long time subscriber) ought to be ashamed of themselves! Phyllis, what are you thinking????
If I'm going to spend upwards of $2000.00 to see a lifestyle expert, I would quadruple the amount to go see Martha Stewart in New York City! Not to impugne Atlanta-an Auntie of mine lived there and other places in Georgia-but SNADS???!!!??? What, is Phyllis Hoffman trying to bring a trailer park audience to her otherwise high class publications?
This makes me sick.

LOL...I guess the wool has been pulled so far over her eyes that she isn't even aware that she's not wearing underwear!

I was surprised at this too! But have you noticed that on the current issues of the magazine Miss Sandra is NOT pictured on the cover?!!!June 15 2009, 06:06:07 UTC 2 years ago
Re: D'oooooohhhhhhhh.......
"But have you noticed that on the current issues of the magazine Miss Sandra is NOT pictured on the cover?!!!"We should probably be thankful for that.

However, I'm trying to save my pennies to go to Paris for my 40th birthday next year, so I'm afraid that $2000 is too rich for my blood.
Maybe we can all contribute and start a fund so Andrew can go and report back.

Rounding up much?
Given, even at $1047 that's far too much for a weekend... but since when is $1047 "almost $2000"? Is this a typo?June 15 2009, 02:24:14 UTC 2 years ago
Re: Rounding up much?
- No, just an math error on my part. On the website, it stated that Registration was $399. Immediately following, it said that there was an additional $100 nonrefundable deposit, so I was under the assumption that the entire registration fee was $499 instead of $399, which is why the original total was $1,147 (the reason why I rounded up). I just never updated that sentence after I checked my math. Sorry for the confusion :)June 15 2009, 15:57:11 UTC 2 years ago
Re: Rounding up much?
I didn't think it was rounding up. I figured you have to remember the cost of airfare or other travel arrangements. Assuming you don't live in or near Atlanta, you might also need plane tickes or at the very least, gas in your car. As it was also mentioned, if you fly, you will have to pay the taxi driver who drove you to the hotel and tip him, or pay for the rental car (and the fees to park said car at the hotel). Then the cost of the hotel probably doesn't include taxes. The 1147 didn't include airfare and taxi fees, just the cost of the hotel, parking, and actual seminar cost.June 15 2009, 16:42:54 UTC 2 years ago
Re: Rounding up much?
- True. I mean, how many people do you know that can just pick up and go on a trip like this? I know none, and I feel sorry for those "fans" of hers who have chosen to drive all that way.If dropping $1047 dollars just to see her, not including what it would cost to actually get you there (by plane or car), is worth it, what is the world coming to? LOL
